FALL 2008 CLASS SCHEDULE West African Dance Classes For Kids Ages 6-16 taught at PROPHECY SCHOOL OF THE ARTS Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30 pm ____________________________________________________________________ West African Dance Classes For Toddlers Ages 2-6 taught at PROPHECY SCHOOL OF THE ARTS Tuesdays 5:45-6:30 pm ____________________________________________________________________ Dance Instructor Information: During 2008, Ms. Tahembi Simmons (T. Bhakti Orismekusa) will be teaching West African Dance classes for Kids at the Prophecy School of the Arts, ages 2-16. Currently, she is also available to teach dance workshops and on- going classes in the community at local summer camps, dance camps and daycare summer programs. Ms. Simmons is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and researcher who has been working with youth from Florida to Costa Rica for more than ten years. Prior to this summer, she has been teaching the youth in the Los Angeles community since 1998. It is her mission to share the cultural legacy of the African Diaspora with young children and teens in order to promote cultural awareness and creative expression. Through creative and cultural songs, dance, music and exercise, Ms. Simmons hopes to provide a positive and fun foundation for our children’s future. Concurrently, she is also teaching a unique dance workshop “Roots of Hip Hop”. Tahembi Simmons has developed an exciting and enriching learning experience which highlights the African Diaspora roots of hip hop dance, music and culture. The class series and/or presentational workshop incorporates dance from West Africa, Brazil & hip hop with historical background and optional material and open discussion. This ground breaking interactive format was specifically designed for students in age groups: 5-6, 7-9, 10-13, 14-19. | DYNAMIC CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS 2008-2009 TH During the month of May 2008, Ms. Tahembi Simmons (T. Bhakti Orismekusa) attended the 4th Annual BOCA Fest (Belly Dance for women of Color) in Washington D.C. She was honored to study with and bring back new choreography from her mentors Khalidah*, Tarik Sultan, and Lotus Niraja* . Please join us on Saturdays from 6:30-7:30 pm and get your shimmy on! BOCA Bellydance (Fusion)Class Description: Each session will focus on the foundation of technique and provide stimulating exercise. There will be hip scarves and DVDs available for purchase in each class. She is available to teach 45 minute to 2 hour dance workshops and on-going dance classes in the community at local recreations centers, after-school programs and daycare centers.
